Stowe School Admissions
Choosing the right school for your child is clearly a very important decision, with many factors to take into consideration: what the school is able to offer your child and will your child be happy at the school enabling them to reach their full potential - just two of many key issues. We have given a range of information here on our website and in our school literature which we hope will help you in your decision making process.
Admissions procedure at Stowe
Pupils (both boys and girls) generally enter Stowe at aged 13 (into our 3rd Form - Year 9) or at 16 into our Lower Sixth Form (Year 12). Sometimes places may become available in other year groups - the Admissions Office will be able to advise on their availability.
A prospectus can be requested by contacting the Admissions Office directly or completing the enquiry form.
Visit to Stowe
Our website, school prospectus and hearsay provide only provide part of the picture, there is no alternative to coming to see Stowe for yourself, to sample the atmosphere and, most of all, to meet the people. You are therefore warmly invited to Stowe. You may initially prefer a more formal group introduction by attending one of our open mornings when you will have the opportunity to meet a wide range of our academic staff - these events are popular so please do book well in advance. If you would like a personal, individual visit, then please contact our Admissions team to arrange a suitable date. A typical visit will include an individual school tour, with a current pupil as your guide; a private discussion with the Registrar and/or the Headmaster; a House tour and a meeting with a Housemaster or Housemistress.
Your child can be registered with Stowe at any time. A Registration Form is included with our Prospectus. This enables us to keep in regular contact with you regarding developments at the School, the availability of places and advise you of the next steps to consider at the appropriate time. It is advisable to register at least 3 years prior to entry.
Acceptance of a Place
When you wish to confirm your intention to take up an offer of a place at Stowe, you should request an Acceptance Form. At this stage, we will write to your child's school for a reference. Once we have received this, completion of the form and payment of a deposit will ensure a place is reserved for your child at Stowe, subject to the relevant entry qualifications being met. You may also express a preference in your choice of Boarding House. The deposit is refundable after your child has left the School.
School Fees - 2009/2010
Boarding: £9,130 per term
Day: £6,620 per term
(3 terms per year)
Entry to Stowe is conditional on your child gaining 50% or more at Common Entrance in the core subjects (Maths, English and Science), or in our own Stowe Entry Papers, and a satisfactory reference from your child's present school. Sixth Form entrants need to achieve a minimum of six GCSE passes at grade C or above, with at least four at grade B or above.
Scholarships, up to a maximum of one quarter of the appropriate fees, are awarded through competitive examination held in the year prior to entry at 13+ and Sixth Form level. Bursaries may further supplement scholarships and are awarded after financial assessment.
The school does not normally offer bursaries at point of entry for pupils who have not received a scholarship. Further details of the scholarships available are given.
Our team in the Admissions Office will be pleased to assist you in any way and at any stage in your considerations to find the right school for your child. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
